Mike Perry Land / Sea (Ocean, Exmouth)

8 June 2021 to 14 August 2021

Land/Sea (Tir/Môr) is a major solo exhibition by Wales-based artist Mike Perry spearheading East Devon’s new Climate campaign - Climate Conversations. This display is part of a larger exhibition at THG in Honiton, which features 20 works from two ongoing series - Wet Deserts and Môr Plastig.

Mike Perry focuses our attention on the growing environmental crisis at home, probing questions about our activity and inactivity. The works spark conversation bringing contemporary environmental issues to our attention, not in a campaigning emotionally charged way, but through analytical examination and poetic reflection, pulling us into a very personal contemplation.

The selection in Exmouth includes two large bodies of work from the Môr Plastig series (Welsh for ‘plastic sea’), Soft Drinks Bottles Grid x 15, Pembrokeshire, Wales 2012 and Flip flops & Shoes x 28 2012-17. Over a 5 year period Perry collected and forensically photographed plastic objects such as bottles, shoes and packaging washed up on the beaches of West Wales, inviting us to consider the pollution of our beaches, the impact of consumerism and what we might be leaving for future generations.

The exhibition launched on World Ocean Day to highlight highlighting degradation of ecosystems on land and in our oceans.
