Creative ideas for Under 5's

Today would have been one of our monthly 'Early Years Sessions' at the gallery, so instead artist Laurel Coxon shares some great art activities to keep little ones entertained at home.

"Toddlers love being creative and exploring textures... with play dough you can learn to cut, roll, squash and poke. Add different colourings, I have used turmeric. You could also collect some feathers on a walk. Wash them well, pop them in water and turmeric over night to make chick feathers."

Dough Recipe:
125g flour
150g Salt
2 tablespoons Cream of tartar
250ml boiling water
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1 tablespoon of Turmeric/spirulina powder/ cinnamon

1. Mix dried ingredients together
2. Add boiling water + oil to the dry ingredients and mix until it pulls away from the bowl edge
3. Once cool, knead until smooth
4. Store in a sealed container for up to 6 months

Have fun! Please post any images of the results using the hashtag #thgtakeover
