ENJOY the Great British Outdoors.Yorkshire Sculpture Park: its collection and website makes for an uplifting spring Culture Pick.
Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a world class venue just outside Wakefield. YSP gives us an opportunity to enjoy work outside the traditional, sometimes confining four walls of a gallery/museum. Works by Damien Hirst, Hardeep Sahota, Joan Miro and of course locals, Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, make for a compelling outdoor experience.
PUT THE KETTLE ON, make some Yorkshire tea and settle into a romp through the work of one of Britain’s greatest visual artists – Cornelia Parker.
Artist Talk: Cornelia Parker (50 mins).Cornelia Parker OBE, RA should be a national treasure. Famously in 1991, she blew up her garden shed and then put all the pieces together in ‘Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View’. Since that time, she has taken her wicked sense of humour into sculpture, installation, video and photography. This humorous video wonderfully displays her debt to the grand master of Dada and Conceptual Art, Marcel Duchamp. In the illustrated talk,Cornelia touches on Gainsborough, Blake, Hogarth and even Hitchcock.
