Join artist Debs Last for a painting workshop outside in the landscape of the THG garden.

11am to 3pm. Materials and refreshments provided. Please bring a packed lunch.

Painting every day: during 2020/2021 lockdowns, Debs used the practice of daily painting to help connect her to her home location, going out every every single day. As 2022 approached she wondered if she could do this for a whole year including painting on her daughter’s wedding day! Debs will still be completing his year long project as part of the workshop. Daily painting has developed into a key part of her practice as an artist, bringing a fresh outlook to her artwork and greater connection to the landscape. She is keen to share this enthusiasm!

About the workshop: you will find out how to prepare a painting surface and select a view using a sketchbook as a tool. You will use paint in an expressive and immediate way with help on mixing colour and keeping them clean and fresh. Debs uses water-mixable oil as this is cleaner and safer to work with and has developed ways of working with an 'alla prima' style of painting bringing immediacy and fluidity to the way she works.

What you will achieve: you can expect to produce a number of pieces within the day and receive lots of advice and help. Debs is an experienced art tutor and has worked with adults for many years, encouraging them to find their own creative voice.  Hopefully you will be inspired to continue to head into the landscape to paint en plein air for yourself.
