The winners of the THG Open 2025 exhibition were announced at the opening event attended by over 140 visitors.
The prize winners were selected from 104 finalists whose work is exhibited at the gallery. The gallery received over 460 entries from their open call.
The Main Prize was awarded to artist Mellony Tapper for her work ‘Trousseau’. Mellony received the prize of £500 generously donated by sponsors Bearnes Hampton & Littlewood and is also awarded a solo exhibition at the prestigious gallery.
Two of Mellony Taper’s works were selected for the exhibition. Mellony is an interdisciplinary artist, whose work has been exhibited widely across the UK.
Following the birth of her daughter, lacking both time and space to make physical work, she turned to her lens and screen: making digital, photographic works that reference family photos, clothing, household objects and linens.
The ‘Best Emerging Artist Under 25’ prize was awarded to Lucie Sivier-Voller for her work ‘Tapestry of Dance’. The £250 prize money was also generously sponsored by Bearnes Hampton and Littlewood.
Lucie is a young artist based in East Devon and London, currently an undergraduate at the University of the Arts London (UAL) Camberwell. She works in oils, ink, charcoal and pyrography. Her work often seeks to create soulful connections between the subject and the viewer.
The judging panel consisted of:
- Francesca Elliot, artist and member of THG Youth Network
- Gemma Girvan, THG Curator
- Sharon James, artist and winner of THG Open 2023
- Tim Martin, independent curator
- Martin Staniforth, sculptor and co-founder of Creative Beings CIC
The exhibition continues until 23 August.
